Guest toseland Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Just aquired this car and using it for towing for first time. Returning to Reading from Malvern, pulled van up Birdlip hill outside Gloucester no problem, very impressed. However a bit later on changed from 6th to 3rd for a hill just outside Swindon and about half way up a big loss of power I thought a turbo pipe had blown off. Stopped in lay bye no fault found so decided to try to limp home. Started up full power! and fine all the way home To Reading. Searched this forum and found I am not alone with this problem. I was surprised the MIL light did not come on when I lost power, then realised the Mil light does not light up when first switching ignition on. So my question is does a 2004 Galaxy 1.9TDI have a MIL light? Checking the handbook it does say it depends on engine fitted. I have access to a Sykes Pickavant ACR so hopefully this will give me a fault code before I let my local Ford dealer have a look under warranty. Quote
dave_m Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 sounds like loss of vacuum to the turbo control system, see the FAQ section for what to check I had exactly the same problem whilst towing, then car was fine it got worse and more frequent over time. It was eventually traced to a loose pipe on the Vacuum reservoir (round plastic ball on front of engine) but there are many places where a split pipe or loose pipe could cause these symptoms. People might say its the MAF, but it definately sounds like a vacuum problem to me try this post http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...ST&f=62&t=5921# Quote
NikpV Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Mother in Law - MIL :) :D :D Certainly she lights my 'Malfunction Indication Lamp' on the 1.9tdi - the Engine management light is a flashing Glowplug light - coil shaped Quote
dave_m Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 From experience i have found the glowplug lamp only indicates certain faults. As for the loss of vacuum which may be causing the fault. the DTC code shown on my car for this is P1556-Charge Pressure Controller Negative Deviation Quote
Guest toseland Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Sorry about the last post, new to these things. (it's gone now! MM) Thank you Gents, I have re read the handbook and see that the glowplug light doubles up as a "Malfunction indicator lamp". If the Mother in law had one it would be permantly on. I will check vac hoses in the morning and see what codes the ACR brings up & let you know Cheers Quote

NikpV Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 Ummm Just wonder whether a collapsed vacuum pipe under trying conditions would give your symptons Quote
seatkid Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 It tripped into limp home mode. You were demanding a lot of power and something in the turbo control loop was out of range for too long giving rise to under or overboost. Reasons for this could be MAF sensor, turbocharger, pressure/temp sensors, boost control solenoid, control vacuum blockage or leak, main airway leak from pipes/intercooler, or simply a blocked air filter......take your pick. Guest toseland Posted June 20, 2006 Report Posted June 20, 2006 Read the codes with ACR4 this morning, 1 code stored. 17965 Charge Pressure Control Present Malfunction. So I guess I need to check hoses to & from the valve on the bulkhead behind the metal plate? One thing, this Galaxy has not been used for about 4 months is there a chance something just stuck?
